Every day we perform, we dance, to a tune that is our life.
I see our performance to be the creation of ourselves, through
how we appear visually to others and ourselves.
Since graduating from Ucol Wanganui in 2002, I have continued
to explore how women perceive themselves in ‘dress.’
Glass is a wonderful media to interpret the folds and textures
of fabric and lace, it has a timeless quality and a deep beauty,
thus perfect for creating gowns that reflect the many historical
influences our culture has seen over the centuries.
Much of my work is drawn from my own experiences and of my
daughters’ journey into womanhood. The Dancing Girls
with their gangly legs and unsure posture are a light hearted
look at the younger girl’s image of her adolescent figure
and her growing awareness of her femininity. The Conversations
of Ladies in Dresses series, are the beginning of my research
into the traditions of ‘the dress’ and the Grande
Pacific Kimono’s represent what I believe is a mix of
many cultures, New Zealand colour, landscape and our passion
for visual beauty.
