  Julian Bailey

Kia ora no tatau, my name is Julian Taitoko Bailey, known to many as Judd. I am a proud son of the Te Ati Haunui a papa rangi tribe, Whanganui. A strong haapu, whanau Marae based upbringing, has most definately influenced my creativity. This has taken the path of what I term as a contempory artform based on  traditional origins. I have accumulated close to twenty years experience in the craft of sculpting and carving. Starting with traditional Maori wood carving, then armed with those skills, progressing to working on Bone and Stone medium.

Predominantly Pounamu (Nephrite) and Pakohe (Argillite) both hold a harder than steel temper and are traditional mediums. I generally focus on creating personal wearable art forms. Catering to clients from parents seeking a little piece of Aotearoa or the iconic identifying ‘Maori Carving’ for offspring about to embark on their ‘OE’, to Iwi, mainstream and numerous organisations seeking personal taonga, gift, koha or gratitude.
One of my greatest pleasures in creating such Taonga is the fact that in 200 years or so, long after we're all dust, taonga I have creatied will still be living.

Until then unbridaled creativity, as life is about 'the journey, not the destination'
