Karen Ellett majored in hot glass on the Glass Design and Production
Diploma program at Whanganui UCOL and graduated in 2001.
From there she became the Artist in Residence/Technician at
the Whanganui UCOL glass department for 2002. She is now an
independent glass artist living and working in Whanganui.
Karen and two other glass artists have set up their own hot
glass studio, Chronicle Glass Studio that opened in November
2005. Karen's work is highly collectable and has been acquisitioned
by Te Papa Museum of New Zealand. She was recently only one
of seventy artists to be accepted into the prestigious Kanazawa
Glass Exhibition in Japan and her work was also showcased
at Air New Zealand Fashion week 2004..
Karen's work has always incorporated strong use of cold working
on and in her blown work, to her this leaves a 'record' of
the interaction between her craft and herself. Karen continues
with this in her series of work in 2005 as well as exploring
other techniques and forms through into 2006.
