Katie graduated from the Diploma in Glass Design
and Production in 1999 at Whanganui UCOL. While studying,
Katie met Josh Simpson, an internationally renowned American
glass artist, who invited her to travel to Massachusetts and
become a part of his glassmakers team. After three years Katie
then moved on to England where she worked with several glass-makers,
one of them being environmental glass artist Neil Wilkin.
Working with Wilkin became a crucial turning point in her
career because Katie was able to have her own work space alongside
him to produce her own work and gained invaluable tutelage
in the process.
Katie’s work is inspired by the natural world and she
enjoys reflecting this within hot glass. Through her use of
colour and cold techniques her pieces have a sense of delicate
structure. Katie works with a diverse range of forms that
consist of jewellery, goblets, bowls, platters and ambience
lighting. Katie is looking forward to Chronicle Glass Studio
being up and running and being a full time glass artist.
